BRC/RILA: British Retail Consortium – Consumer Product Global Standard

The BRC Global Standards is a leading global safety and quality certification programme, used throughout the world by over 17,000 certificated suppliers in 90 countries through a network of over 80 accredited and BRC recognised Certification Bodies. The BRC Global Standards are widely used by suppliers and global retailers.

Bedforth has been BRC certified since 2005. Certificated grade: A or AA since 2013. Our current 2025 grade is AA.

GMP: Cosmetics Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) / ISO 22716

Bedforth division

GMP is one of the pillars of the New European Regulation for Cosmetics. Its objective is to define for manufacturers the advice, operational rules and organisational guidelines especially focused on human, technical and administrative factors which affect product quality and therefore product safety. Not restricted to just production activities, this regulation also sets very high requirements including control, storage and expedition.

Bedforth was first certified in 2013.

John Drury is a member of Sedex. Sedex is home to one of the world’s largest collaborative platform for buyers, suppliers and auditors to store, share and report on information quickly and easily.

Being a member of Sedex is a sign of John Drury’s willingness to share information and to use this information to help manage and improve ethical standards within the supply chain.

John Drury is certified to the Halal standards

John Drury is certified to the Halal standards and can manufacture your products to this standard.

Halal certification is a formal process that verifies whether products, services, or facilities comply with Islamic dietary laws and ethical principles. For your personal care manufactured products, it ensure that they are “halal” or permissible for consumption or use by Muslims, based on guidelines from the Qur’an and Hadith.

John Drury & Co Ltd, is a chemical soap base manufacturing plant which produces a range of tallow and vegetable derived soap bases. Our wholly-owned sister trading division, Bedforth, manufactures both the finished bars and liquid soaps in various shapes, sizes and volumes. This vertical integration, provides customers with an infinite number of formulations and finished product designs and pack quantities, enabling customers to develop products which are unique to their requirements.

Over the years, we have manufactured bar soap for numerous large and smaller retailers in the bar and liquid soap private label market both in the UK and abroad. No matter the customer, we can manufacture your specialty bar or liquid soap to your specification.

John Drury and Bedforth’s Quality Control Departments validate all aspects of quality control from inspection of incoming raw materials to finished products. In addition, our Quality Management system ensures that, at all times, all aspects of a product’s quality and safety are met. These standards are also importantly regularly challenged for continuous improvement through internal and external audits.
