From soap base to bar and liquid soap
In 1882, John Drury, a qualified engineer, was looking to find a way to supply de-gumming silk soap products for the growing textile trade industry. His vision and determination helped create the foundation of today’s manufacturing plant located in West Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
In the 1920’s, the business evolved to supply soap powders and bars to the textile and laundry industry. By the 30’s, further investment was made to manufacture toilet soap milling base, thus establishing an important sales stream for the business throughout the 20th and now the 21st Century.
M Bedforth & Sons is born: Manufacturing of Bar and Liquid Soap
Over time, John Drury & Co Ltd began to look for new market opportunities to expand its vegetable and tallow milling-base soap product offering. The then descendant owner-manager team of John Drury purchased a toilet soap manufacturing company, M. Bedforth & Sons Ltd in 1965. The goal then, as it is today, was to provide customers with superior value for money by making quality soap tailored to their needs. Ultimately, the alignment between the two companies’ milling base production and toilet soap manufacturing plants enabled us to provide our customers heightened production flexibility and increased quality and control.
By the 1990’s the liquid soap market was growing strong. Again, the business built a purpose-built liquid manufacturing line to supplement is finished bar-soap expertise.
Our years of manufacturing expertise have brought about a strong understanding of quality soap production. The companies remain committed to offering customers value for money and to ensure this, continue to invest in the manufacturing plants to create further efficiency, heightened quality control, and wider product ranges such as liquid soaps. Today, our client base includes major UK retailers, multinational companies worldwide and hotel and gift suppliers.
